Taking a family on a skiing holiday is certainly an exciting proposition, especially if it's the first time the children have been to a winter sports resort. The combination of fresh air, continuous activity and good food normally leaves them happy, but tired, at the end of each day. They sleep soundly and wake refreshed each morning to start all over again. Many adults wish they could do the same just as easily!

Getting outdoors and enjoy the fresh air is something that many of us enjoying doing. Making the most of our garden in the summer months is particularly nice – we can relax and have some fun. The garden also provides a wonderful environment for our children to play in.

This article examines how you can help your children to get the most from playing in your garden. It concentrates on why it's so important that kids take part in active play and the means by which you can encourage them to do so.

I've been trying to encourage my own children to spend more time outdoors. There are a number of reasons for this but it's mainly because I believe that outdoor play is good for them. Getting plenty of fresh air and exercise can only be to their advantage.

Do all parents agree with this approach? There is no doubt that opinions will differ. Some parents are very concerned that their children are not as safe outside the home as they are indoors. This is understandable and it's certainly important to create a safe outdoor environment for kids to play in.

We were never unsupervised when we shot at cans, old Frisbee's, and even old worn out dolls, but my dad always gave me permission to shoot the guns though my mom had no idea I that my father had allowed me to do this.  She was always worried I'd get hurt or hurt someone else which now, as an adult I have a full respect and understanding for.
